Wemade Tree vows to suggest new paradigm in crypto gaming market

Combining game contents with blockchain to boost synergy

“The gaming industry is the area in which the reward system of blockchain can be applied best. Wemade Tree will try to make users (gamers) feel the usefulness of blockchain in the gaming industry.”

Kim Suk-hwan and Oh Ho-eun, co-CEOs of Wemade Tree, made the remarks in an interview at the company’s headquarters in Pangyo Wednesday, underscoring the synergy to be created by combining game contents with blockchain. Wemade Tree, a subsidiary of Wemade Entertainment, is dedicated to conducting research and development on blockchain technology. It is the only gaming company selected as Kakao Klaytn’s partner.

“Gamers are fairly used to getting rewards while playing games and are also familiar with trading items with other users,” said Kim, adding that “we will develop sustainable blockchain game services based on Wemade’s proven reputation in games.” In other words, Wemade Tree aims to offer intrinsic fun by connecting in-game content users experience everyday with blockchain.

Wemade Tree plans to build its own private blockchain to combine it with games and adopt a multi-chain system to smoothly process transactions on such statistical data as in-game assets and user points. Game-related transactions will be carried out on private blockchain networks, which will be connected to Klaytn, the leading public blockchain, to enhance accessibility. The company’s private networks are in the final stage of development and can process 1,000 transactions per second (TPS) now, with no transaction fees.

Wemade, which boasts more than 200 million users so far, is ready to display a variety of games, from MMORPG (massively multi-player online role-playing games) to casual games. Co-CEO Oh said, “Wemade Tree’s first service will be a game closer to MMORPG. Users will be able to play the game in the first quarter at the earliest or in the second at the latest.” He expressed confidence that Wemade will “lower entry barriers greatly by providing convenient user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) based on our experiences of producing various games.” His remarks are taken as meaning that Wemade will be able to capture markets early through its user base, internet protocol (IP) and database.

Oh, in particular, emphatically said he will suggest a new paradigm going beyond the limitations of the current crypto gaming market. “Staking and transaction fees are foreign to existing users and this might be a cause for lowering usability,” he said. “Coercing fees is unacceptable in the gaming market.” Taking issue with simple game structures and low content volumes, Oh went on to say that Wemade Tree will provide a broad range of games “so that users can be content with immersion, the essential factor of a game, and compensation.”

Wemade Tree is eager to secure its own technologies to provide users with many different games. To help support in-game token economies, the company is preparing an electronic wallet, transaction processing technology, a middleware and nodes. The wallet plays the role of bridging various goods (items and tokens) generated in its private blockchain game services and the external public blockchain platform. “We prepared our own wallet to support token economies optimized best for the game platform,” said Oh, adding that the wallet will serve as a web browser that encompasses token transmission, introduction into games, provision of download links and account linkage. Wemade Tree is also in the final stage of developing a black scanner aimed at verifying transactions while trying to develop its own games. In the long term, the company plans to offer advertising networks, administrator tools, data analysis tools and security modules.

Wemade Tree’s ultimate goal is to create a “new value through games.” Oh said, “Communities count for much in the conventional gaming industry. So we will open a new era for communities and gaming companies to thrive together.” Kim also said, “Korea’s blockchain industry is still in its infancy. We will prove that our values are different from those of existing games by unveiling and sharpening substantive services.”
