KT will apply the cloud-based BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) platform to its in-house services for the first time in the Korean business community.

KT said Thursday that it had developed the cloud-based BaaS platform to offer an environment in which domestic companies can develop blockchain services easily. KT plans to apply the platform to its in-house services first.

The KT BaaS platform will enable users to create blockchain nodes on uCloud automatically without building separate servers. Companies exploiting this function can cut costs and shorten the development period for applying blockchain through the KT BaaS platform.

The KT BaaS platform will provide application programming interface (API) so that users can embody and employ smart contracts easily without professional developers while supporting various control functions to ensure that services can be operational stably.

With the development of the BaaS platform, KT is fully ready to compete against international IT giants such as Microsoft Azure, IBM and Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the blockchain BaaS market.

After a pilot service in February, KT plans to launch the service officially for outside companies wishing to develop blockchain in March. /minsy@decenter.kr
