'Ethcon Korea 2019' to be held in Seoul May 27-28

Community-driven conference of Ethereum developers

“Ethcon Korea 2019,” a conference of Ethereum developers, will take place at Coex Grand Ballroom in southern Seoul May 27-28. Ethcon is a non-profit, community-driven conference like Pycon, a conference of Python developers.

A variety of programs will be featured in Ethcon Korea to help raise participants’ understanding and experience. “Ethereum (ETH) Thief Challenge” is scheduled for May 26 at Nonce on the eve of the main conference. This is a program prompting participants to seize ETH by attacking security weaknesses in smart contract each other. Sooho, Onther, Haechi Labs and Adevt will help participating teams’ attacks as mentoring partners. Seoul National University’s blockchain society Decipher, Korea University’s KUBL, Chung-Ang University’s C-Link and Kyung Hee University’s BLiKH will take part as program partners. The winning team will receive prize money of 5 ETH and have an opportunity to speak on how it attacked security weaknesses.

A treasure-hunt game entitled “Looking for mnemonic” will be held. One who finds the mnemonic code, divided into five pieces hidden here and there in the event hall, fastest will obtain a wallet containing 1 ETH.

The “Ethereum101” program will also be available for novice blockchain developers. This program consists of lessons and training lectures concerning Solidity and Vyper, which are basic programming languages necessary to draw up a smart contract.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has actively supported Ethcon Korea by retweeting its tweet. The Ethereum Foundation has fixed its grant aid for Ethcon Korea and plans to support the Ethereum ecosystem as a special sponsor. In addition, Nonce, Metadium, Hatch Labs, Status, bitfish, Atomrigs Consulting, Berith, Decent and CosmicBC are participating as sponsors. Recruiting sponsors is still in progress.

“We are encouraging student developers to take part in Ethcon Korea actively. Our aim is to get closer to the public easily and friendly with fresh programs and events,” an Ethcon preparatory committee official said. “Those wishing to know more about blockchain and Ethereum as well as blockchain beginners are welcome.”
